About

Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software packages have advanced significantly, enabling the simulation of complex flood scenarios. This On-demand Hydrology and Hydraulics Essentials Training Series is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the underlying concepts that are key for accurate interpretation, application, and presentation of results.

Developed in collaboration with industry and academic experts, this series offers eight comprehensive 3-hour courses. Each course delves into the fundamental concepts of hydrology and hydraulics, applicable across various modelling platforms like HEC-HMS, MIKE, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS and more. These courses provide both theoretical insights and practical applications, equipping water sector professionals with the skills to select appropriate input variables, troubleshoot issues, and interpret results accurately in 1D, 2D, or 3D environments.

How it works

AWS has designed the Hydrology and Hydraulics Essentials Training Series for industry professionals looking to master the core concepts of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling applications. Once you register, you’ll receive immediate access to all eight (8) courses with unlimited access for 4 months. Learn at your own pace, through a combination of video recordings, practical exercises, and real-world case studies.

Watch this introductory video to learn more about each of the 8 courses:

Each 3-hour course in this series is workshop-based, enabling participants to perform hands-on calculations and compare key parameters with numerical model outputs.

The series begins with two free webinars, “Froude, Dude!” and “From Courant to Saint Venant,” which dive into the fundamental equations often hidden inside the “black box” of most hydraulic modelling software.

As you progress through the course content, you can contact our expert presenters at any time via the learning platform. Track your progress, revisit materials anytime, and complete the courses on your schedule.

On Completion, you will

  • Receive a Certificate of Completion for each course.
  • Earn 40+ CPD points for your professional development (i.e. with Engineers Australia).
