Bureau of Meteorology
John is a Senior Hydrogeologist working with the Bureau of Meteorology’s groundwater team. He is primarily responsible for groundwater data management, helping fulfil the Bureau’s obligations under the Water Act 2007 to collate water data and make it publicly available. By engaging with lead water agencies, this work has led to the creation of a national groundwater database, holding water level information for more than 227,000 bores and salinity information for more than 240,000 bores. This data is available through the Australian Groundwater Explorer. John also led development of the Australian Groundwater Insight—a web-based resource delivering nationally-consistent groundwater management, status and trend information for non-expert users.
