Ben van den Akker has pursued a hybrid research career within both academia and industry. Currently, he is a research wastewater scientist at SA Water, where he works closely the Wastewater Treatment Unit to apply research into operational outcomes with a focus to bridge the research – application gap. He also serves as Adjunct Lecturer in the School of the Environment at Flinders University as well as in the School of Chemical Engineering at Adelaide University. Bens research interests lie in environmental and public health microbiology, particularly in the areas of wastewater treatment and water reclamation.
