Arun Shrestha is a Senior Climate Change Specialist and Program Manager for the Regional River Basins and Cryosphere program of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) based in Kathmandu. Arun has a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of New Hampshire, USA, on the physical and chemical climate of the Himalaya. Before joining ICIMOD, he worked for the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Nepal for 17 years, where he was responsible for the operation of high altitude catchment studies in the Nepal Himalaya. After joining ICIMOD in 2006 he has led several initiatives which involved research on climate change and its impacts on Hindu Kush Himalaya river basins. His main areas of expertise include climate change, glaciers and glacial hazards, glacial lake risk mitigation, atmospheric environment and hydrological modelling.
