Julian Martin
Julian Martin is a waterway engineer and fluvial geomorphologist with over 20 years’ experience specialising in waterway management. A Chartered Environmental and Civil Engineer (CPEng, NER) and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), Julian has extensive experience in design, modelling, construction and project management across environmental and engineering projects.
His work integrates geomorphic, hydraulic, hydrologic, vegetation and engineering analysis to better understand river systems and develop practical waterway management solutions. He has undertaken numerous geomorphic investigations across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, interpreting river landscapes and their evolution, identifying key processes and issues affecting stream form, and applying risk-based approaches to waterway management.
Julian has extensive experience in waterway rehabilitation, engineering design and construction supervision, as well as the development of strategic waterway management and action plans. His work has included identifying waterway features and values, assessing river health and management issues, and developing interventions that are compatible with natural river morphology and processes.
Throughout his career, Julian has delivered waterway engineering and design projects incorporating geomorphic assessment for government authorities and private industry. He also has extensive experience communicating complex technical information to landholders, government agencies, stakeholders and the broader community.
