About

CSIRO’s Basin Futures 2.0 is a next‑generation, interactive platform designed to support water security and climate change planning. Built in collaboration with Google, it brings together global, regional, and local datasets with machine‑learning and hydrology models to give users rapid, evidence‑based insights into water availability, demand, and future pressures.

The tool draws on methods developed through Google’s FloodHub and uses cloud computing to minimise the technical resources required to run assessments. Its user‑centric design lowers the barrier to entry, enabling broader participation from planners, practitioners, and community stakeholders in climate adaptation and water resource decision‑making.

This session introduces Basin Futures 2.0 and demonstrates how it can be applied in water resources assessments. Participants will see how the platform supports scenario exploration, climate impact analysis, and strategic planning, offering a practical pathway for fast, transparent, and scalable water security evaluations.

Basin Futures

Basin Futures is an entry level tool that assists in initial understanding of basin water resources. It does this by providing a low cost, web based tool with pre-integrated data and models. Basin Futures consists of three main parts.
