Freek Van Arkel

Freek van Arkel is a Senior Technical Advisor in the Evidence Services Team at the Environment Agency in England. He leads complex flood risk modelling projects that underpin national flood risk management strategy and major capital works, with a focus on maintaining proportionate technical standards and driving innovation in modelling practice. He provides expert technical leadership on fluvial flood risk studies, supports evidence‑led decision making, and plays a key role in developing technical guidance, assurance processes, modelling delivery processes and capability across modelling delivery teams. Before joining the Environment Agency, Freek spent over five years at Stantec, working on a wide range of public and private sector projects involving hydraulic and hydrological modelling, economic appraisals, reservoir assessments, Flood Risk Assessments, and flood risk business cases. Freek holds an MEng in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University.
