Dr Conrad Wasko is the lead of the Technical Working Group Update to the Climate Change Considerations chapter in Australian Rainfall and Runoff.
He moved to the University of Sydney in February of 2024 to take up a project on Future proofing Australia from increasing flood risk. Prior to this, Conrad was an ARC DECRA Fellow at the University of Melbourne.
He has over ten years’ experience in engineering and environmental hydrology in both consulting and research, with a focus on understanding the effects of climate change on extreme rainfall events and flooding.
Conrad’s research has won him numerous awards. His work demonstrating the intensification of extreme rainfall events with climate change was awarded the Lorenz G. Straub award for best PhD thesis globally in water engineering. He has also been awarded the MSSANZ Early Career Research Excellence Award in 2019, as well as being a Victoria Fellowship recipient in 2020. Conrad’s research has culminated in over 50 published articles as well as contributing to the current national guidelines on flood estimation.
