Colin Thorne has studied rivers for over 50 years, focusing on sediment processes, flood risk management, and more recently biogeomorphology & river restoration.

While primarily an academic researcher, he has always considered the applicability and utility of his findings and has advised many river agencies and governments, globally. His books and papers are widely cited (.17k citations, H-index 67) and his contributions to knowledge have won awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the British Royal Geographical Society.
