Matthew is a disaster management specialist in local government, with extensive experience in natural hazards, business continuity, and governance.
He has played a pivotal role in disaster operations for the City of Ipswich, including leadership during the two major flood events of 2022. In these events, Matthew served as a key member of the disaster operations leadership team and has previosuly provided Council’s lead flood intelligence function, providing critical insights to guide response efforts.
A passionate advocate for community resilience, Matthew has deep roots in the Ipswich and Somerset region. He previously volunteered with the State Emergency Service (SES) for over 20 years, contributing to frontline emergency response and community support.
Matthew’s diverse professional background in accounting and policing has equipped him with strong analytical skills and the ability to make time-critical, high-consequence decisions. These capabilities underpin his commitment to effective, community-based disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
